Dividing and drying your tuberose bulbs
Share
You should divide your bulbs every time that you dig them.
To divide them, simply pull them apart. You may have to snap off the side bulbs from the main bulb To do so, make sure you grab the two as close to the base of the bulbs as possible. Sometimes, you may want to pull off all of the individual bulbs for maximum increase in your total number of plantable bulbs. Other times, you may want to break a clump into two or three smaller clumps with a max of 3 or 4 larger bulbs in each clump. It’s fun to experiment with them to see what you like best.
As you divide your clumps, additional soil will fall off. Your goal should be to have as little soil around the bulbs as possible.
Once you've divided them, keep them again in one layer while they dry. Again, don’t let them get dew or rain. The reddish leaf bottoms will begin to dry out and turn brown. Any soil left in the clumps will begin to dry out. It will probably take 10 days to 2 weeks for the bulbs and clumps to dry out completely so they can be packed away.
Your bulbs are dry when you cannot see any noticeable moisture anywhere - the leaves should be completely dry and there’s no moisture left in the soil in the clumps.
You’re ready to pack them away for storage.
