Unpacking and preparing to plant the tuberose bulbs you've stored

It’s really fun when spring rolls around to open up your boxes and crates to see your tuberose friends again.

Some of your bulbs will die during storage - it’s just a normal part of the process.  The ones that have died will feel squishy or hollow and light, rather than firm and somewhat heavy.

Before you plant them, or as you’re planting them, you might consider scraping some of the bulblets off of your large bulbs or clumps.  When a bulb has, say, 20 bulblets around it, those 20 will not get nearly as big as those of a bulb that has 6 to 8 bulblets.  If you are trying to maximize the production of bulbs that will flower the second season,  having less than ten bulblets on each large bulb is best.

And you can keep those little bulblets and plant them!  We just sprinkle them in a trench and let them do their thing.  No need to put them upright or anything.  They will grow nicely into medium to large bulbs in one season!
