What about weeding my tuberoses?

You should weed around your tuberose plants regularly.  Weeds compete for nutrients and can block tuberoses from receiving proper sunlight. If the weeds win out, your flowers will be feeble and there will be little to no growth of small new bulbs.

At various times in the past, we have neglected to weed some rows or beds thoroughly, and we’ve always paid the price.  One year, we let a bed go and we probably got only ⅓ the flowers we should have.  And the bulbs hadn’t hardly grown at all because of competition for resources.

Do not weed your tuberose beds until you see the plants coming up.  It is very easy to cut or damage the emerging stems and leaves off if you weed before they surface.

Continue occasional weeding after your tuberoses have flowered.  The less competition they have, for the entire season, the more they will multiply.
